Uganda refuses to pull its troops out of South Sudan
Kampala/Juba, September 29, 2015 (SSNA) — Ugandan military Spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Paddy Ankunda said Kampala is not preparing to pull its troops out of south Sudan, citing lack of military withdrawal request from South Sudanese government.
The recently signed power sharing deal stipulates that all foreign forces must leave South Sudan within 45 days.
However, Kampala seems not ready to pull out of the violence-wracked nation.
“Ugandan troops in South Sudan are not preparing to pull out. For now there are no troop movements,” Lt. Col. Paddy was quoted by the Associated Press as saying.
The announcement happens less than two weeks before all foreign forces can leave South Sudan as required by the IGAD-Plus’s compromise peace agreement.
The deal also calls for the formation of a transitional government of national unity within 90 days.
